Cooling centres with ice storage make a cooling network independent of fluctuations in renewable energy sources
Energy storage is the critical link between the development of renewable energy sources and a decarbonised grid. Our ice storage systems use energy from the sun and wind to freeze water into ice, which can then be used for cooling at a later time. This avoids the need to use power-hungry chillers when the sun is not shining or the wind is not blowing.
sp.ICE stands for “Speedy & Powerful Ice Storage”. The high performance ice storage systems we manufacture can be used in a wide range of applications. Applications include use of renewable energy, avoidance of peak loads, reduction of electricity consumption and CO2 reduction.
Ice storage integration into energy systems
sp.ICE is more than just an ice storage manufacturer. Our team has many years of experience in the design and implementation of innovative and sustainable energy systems. Tailored to the resources available on site and the specific requirements of our customers, we create the technically and economically appropriate cooling solution for each individual project.
Our scope of supply includes the thermal ice energy storage system, the hydraulic connection as well as the I&C and connection to the building management system.
Innovative cooling systems in cooperation with research
As an ice storage manufacturer, we keep up to date with the latest developments through dialogue with research centres and scientists in the fields of geology, energy and building technology, and incorporate this knowledge into our cooling system designs. We use specially developed software to optimise our systems both energetically and economically.
Sustainability is the cornerstone of everything we do. All projects are carried out with sustainability in mind. This is why we are a member of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), which promotes sustainable construction with a certification system for buildings and neighbourhoods.
What our clients say
Full air conditioning was planned for the renovation of an office building. The existing power supply was not sufficient for the required cooling capacity at peak times. Rather than having to make costly upgrades to the existing power supply, the ice storage system offered a cost-effective and quick way of ensuring the required peak cooling capacity. With the support of sp.ICE GmbH, the renovation was successfully completed on time and on budget.
